When looking online for acne treatments that work, acne treatment reviews and testimonials, top 10 acne treatments etc it is very difficult to find one that is written by someone who has genuinely used the products, and when I'm looking to buy an item online this is something that is very important, that the person who has reviewed the product has actually used it themselves, not just taken other peoples reviews and made it there own.
This is the reason I have created this page, I want it to be a resource were anyone who suffers from acne, whether that is light acne, mild acne or serve acne , can visit to find real reviews written by me of my experiences using various acne treatments & products.

Who Is This Guy?
This is a question I'm sure you are now asking yourself?... or if not I'm going to say anyway. My name is R.J Thomas, I suffered from acne, and still get the occasional break outs! I first remember having acne around the age of 14, with it being at it's worse during the ages of 16-18.
During those difficult years I used many different acne treatment methods to help get clear acne-free skin.

Because I know, feel and have been frustrated many times myself trying to find an acne solution that works, I want this page to help you by given you my experiences of the treatments used during the years I suffered from serve acne. You can then hopefully make an informed choice on weather you think that acne treatment product or method is right for you or not.
Now that I have said a little about myself, what I want you to get from this page, I will stop boring you and get on with what acne treatments have or have not worked for me.

I have begun with OTC (over the counter) acne treatments because this is what I used when acne first became a problem, or what could only be described at the time a punishment, during my teen years. Because of the many OTC acne treatments used it was to many to list all of them, so instead I have listed the acne treatments that worked best, plus the acne treatments that did not work

Proactive Face Wash?
If you have suffered from acne for more than one day you have most likely already seen some kind of commercial on proactive. They are really big on using celebrities to promote there face acne treatments, celebrities include Jessica Simpson, Justin Bieber and Katy Perry to name a few, which always makes me suspicious, but due to all the great testimonials I found on there site praising the product I decided to make the purchase - big mistake?
How To Apply
Before applying the acne treatment wet your face. When applying the proactive solution face wash, add around a penny sized amount onto the palm of your hands, then rubbing your hands together to get an even amount on each palm, very lightly massage the cleanser over the entire face for about 10-15 seconds before washing off with lukewarm, never hot water as this can burn the skin causing acne flare ups.
My Results
The proactive solution face wash was the first acne product I had used to try and conquer acne once and for-all. I used it twice daily, morning and evening, following the instructions above.
During the first few months it did help to control my acne, keeping it from becoming much worse. After 6 months of use it begun to dry my skin, this was most likely a side effect from the main ingredient benzoyl peroxide, known to cause this after long term use. It got to the point were my acne became serve for the first time, and was especially bad around the chin area.
Because Of this I decided to stop using the proactive face wash as it was now ineffective in controlling my acne whilst also drying my skin causing cystic acne. This is a similar experience that many other people who have used proactive have also had.
Would I Recommend This Product...
No! I would not recommend this acne treatment product.

My Results
When I started using this facial acne treatment acne was at it's worse it had ever been, there was big, inflamed, pus filled spots all over my face. I was really hoping this organic acne cleanser would at-least help to reduce inflammation and breakouts.
The results I received far suppressed my expectation, after a few months of using the face wash for acne I had cleared at-least 60-70% leaving my skin looking much more young and fresh. It was also very soothing on the skin and left me feeling clean and revitalized.
The only issue I found with the cleanser was the feeling that I had to use a lot of product to feel that my face was thoroughly cleansed - most likely me being paranoid.

Important Note: I may be contradicting myself here but I have not used the neutrogena wave power cleanser, but my brother has who was kind enough to share his results with me and how he used the product. The text below is in 1st person but it's my brothers experience, not mine.
Neutrogena Wave Power Cleanser?
With the neutrogena wave cleanser you can forget about using your hands to massage the product into the pores, instead you have a little device that you place a neutrogena wave cleansing pad onto the bottom, turn on and use that instead.
How To Apply
To apply simply place a cleansing pad on the underside of the cleanser, add a few drops of water onto the pad, switch on and slowly massage over the entire face for 1-2 minutes.
My Results
Because of my age (16), I have a lot of acne caused by hormonal problems, as most kids my age. After watching a TV commercial on the neutrogena wave it looked like a really cool product to try, so I decided to buy it.
After seeing how badly acne affected my brother, and how he would usually have to use something for at-least 30 days or longer to see if it was effective, there was no expectation on my part that this would clear my acne overnight.
Knowing this I sat down in my room, got the neutrogena wave and started to massage over my face, after about a minute I went over to the mirror without any expectations, but to my surprise my skin did look a lot brighter and cleaner, with the acne not looking so inflamed and angry.
Three Months of using the product and the results kept consistent, with the occasional acne breakout but nothing more.
Would I Recommend This Product...
Yes! I got exactly what I expected from this little acne device, nothing spectacular but something that kept my skin clean and clear, with the exception of the odd acne breakout.

Benzoyl Peroxide 5% Gel?
How To Apply
There are many ways people apply benzoyl peroxide, some apply it as an acne spot treatment, others apply a thin even layer over the effected areas, but the way I applied it was a thick even layer over the entire facial area at night, as I found this to be the most effective way for me.
My Results
Benzoyl peroxide is know as the zit zapper in the acne community. The reason for this is because it can eliminate zits overnight which was definitely true for me. When I refer to "zits" I am not talking about big inflamed cystic acne but small pus filled whiteheads.
During the first 6 months the benzoyl peroxide worked really well, it not only helped clear my acne but blackheads also, which were really bad around my nose area.
It was not until after the 6 month mark I started to have major problems with the benzoyl peroxide drying my skin. I tried to find a moisturizer to help keep my skin from over drying to continue using it but had no success.
Because the peroxide was so effective at eliminating those annoying zits that always seem to appear on important occasions such as weddings, I decided only to use it on those occasions, and this is how I use it now and it works perfectly for me.
Would I recommend This Product...
Yes! I would recommend this product, but only as an emergency acne treatment to use when you have a zit breakout before a big day.

Natural Acne Treatments
If I had to choose one method of acne treatment it would 100% be natural treatments for acne. One reason being that they are the only treatments that work long term without side effects, due to me having very sensitive skin. But the main reason is because they have worked the best for me at keeping my skin clean and clear long term.

Green Clay?
Green clay is a natural bio organic material which over thousands of years absorbed many minerals that include silica, iron, cobalt to name only a few. Once the clay is removed from the ground it is left to be sun-dried. Once this process has been done it is ready to be used.
How To Apply
To apply first take 1 tsp of green clay, then add a little amount of water and mix until it has a thick cream like texture, add more water or clay if needed. Leave on for 5-10 minutes before washing off.
My Results
When I started using green clay for acne I had no idea of what results to expect, it was the first time using a 100% natural treatment.
After I had applied and washed off the green clay before even taking a look in the mirror my skin felt very smooth and soft. Once I looked in the mirror I was shocked at how good my skin looked, it went from looking like a greasy chip pan to celebrity like looking skin...OK maybe not that good but hopefully you know what I mean.
The only downside I found with using green clay was the fact it made a big mess, nothing that could not be easily be cleaned tho.
Would I Recommend This Product...
Yes! I would 1000% recommend this product to use as a face mask for acne to anyone. It's the best acne product I've used so far and don't see anything beating it anytime soon.

Manuka Honey UMF 15+?
The manuka honey is a special type of honey that comes from bees that take nectar from the manuka bush that is native to New Zealand. Here comes the tricky part - Because only some manuka honey contains a property called antimicrobial, only this manuka honey is considered "Active", the more active the honey the higher the Unique Manuka Factor (UMF).
How To Apply
There were two ways in which I used manuka honey for my acne. One was as an acne cleanser and the other a mask. To use as a cleanser for acne, first wet your face, take a generous amount of manuka honey, massaging over the entire facial area as you would with any other acne cleanser. Once you have done that for around 15-20 seconds, wash off and pat dry with a towel.
To use as a mask again take a generous amount to cover the entire facial area, making sure to apply it evenly. Once you have done that relax for around 30 minutes before washing off with lukewarm water.
My Results
Cleanser: As a cleanser the manuka honey 15+ was not very effective at clearing away excess oil and dirt, it did help a little to reduce inflammation caused by acne, but did not really make much of a difference to the over-all appearance of my skin which was disappointing for a product that cost so much money.
Mask: The manuka honey as a mask worked amazingly well, especially for my acne scars. It is definitely an acne scar treatment that works. Before using this my scars would typically take 3-9 months + to heal, now they only take around 1-2 months, which at the time was absolutely amazing as scars were my main problem.
Would I recommend This Product...
Yes! I would recommend manuka honey 15+, but not to use as an acne facial cleanser, only as a mask for acne, and especially if acne scars are your main issue because I have found nothing better yet than manuka honey for acne scars!

Hi, I am over weight and currently looking for an over the counter acne medication that works. I have tried stridex, clearasil, noxema, and acne free and those didn't work. I tried clean and clear, and that worked for a little while. I also tried Neutrogena, that was the best, but it quit working. Can anyone please tell me something besides these products that you have tried and found sucessful? how2 pop a pimple

So do you know of any liquid foundation that I could buy at a drug store that doesn't clog pores and stuff? And would it even effect acne, also, for extra cover up, could I use the liquid foundation and the powder too or would that be too much?
