101 Home Remedies For Acne!

Below is a list of 101 home remedies for acne, all of the remedies below I have used, some with great results and others with not so good results. What worked for me may not work for you, the only way you can find out is by testing yourself.

The great thing about home remedies for acne, acne scars, pimples and zits is that they can be as or more effective than over the counter acne treatments and most only cost a fraction of the price, which in the long run could help save $100s or $1000s per year. The risk of side effects are also greatly reduced when using home remedies as most are 100% natural.

1 . Lemon Juice (diluted): Add 1 tsp of lemon juice into a bowl, use a cotton ball to soak up the lemon juice, dab the juice onto the pimples washing off after 10 minutes. Always add water to dilute the solution as the acid withing the juice can burn skin.

2. Tomatoes: Cut a fresh tomato into 3 quarters, keep one and store the other 2 for later use. Rub the tomato over the effected areas. You can then leave on, or if the juice leaves a red appearance wash off after 10 minutes.

3. Olive Oil: Add a very small amount of olive oil to the skin as a moisturizer. It is good for helping skin elasticity and speeding up the healing process of acne scars.  

4. Ice Cube: Holding an ice cube over inflamed acne will help to reduce the inflammation and redness.

5. Cucumber Mask: Blend 1 whole cucumber into a mushy paste, apply over the entire facial area leaving on for 30 minutes before washing off.

6. Manuka Honey: Add a generous amount of manuka honey over the facial area. Leave on for a minimum of 30 minutes before washing off. Alternatively you can use as a cleanser, just apply as you would your normal cleanser. Manuka honey is great for speeding up the healing processes of acne scars.

7. Lavender oil: Put 1-2 drops of  lavender oil onto a q-tip cotton swab and dab over pimples. Do this morning and evening for the best results.

8. Egg White Mask: Crack an egg over a bowl to separate the egg white from the yolk, leaving the egg white in the bowl. Very gently beat the egg whites for a few seconds. Apply over the face leaving on for 10-15 minutes, wash off with warm water also using a clean cloth.

9. Aloe Vera Gel: Apply the gel from withing the aloe plant over the effected areas, leaving on for 15 minutes minimum before washing off. The aloe vera gel is very effective at soothing the skin and speeding up the healing process of acne scars.

10. Potato: Slice 1 potato in half, store one half for the next night, with the other half rub all over the face for a few seconds, leave on overnight. This will help to dry out pimples with very fast results. 


11. Pineapple: Place a few cuts of pineapple into a food processor and process until the texture is mushy, apply over the face as a acne mask, wash off after 30-60 minutes.


12. Orange Peel: Leave the peel from on orange in the sun for a few hours to dry, after this moisten with a few drops of water and rub all over the acne. 


13. Oatmeal And Honey: Add 3/4 cup of oatmeal to 1/2 cup of water, boil as you would if making it to eat (just don't eat it), leave to stand for a few minutes. Now add in 1/3 cup of honey to help the oatmeal stick, apply over the facial area, avoiding the eye area, leave on for 10-15 minutes. This will help remove excess oil and dead skin cells.


14. Pillow Case: Change your pillow case every 2-7 days. Oil, dirt and bacteria quickly builds up on pillow cases which can lead to blocked pores and acne breakouts.


15. Fenugreek: Using the leaves of the fenugreek, mix to make a paste, apply at night leaving on until the morning before removing with lukewarm water. Great as a pimple and blackhead remover.


16. Garlic: Rubbing a clove of garlic over the face daily is said to help get clear skin (just make sure your not going out). Taking garlic internally is also a great blood purifier which is important for acne-free skin.  


17. Epsom Salt Bath: Run a warm bath, add in Epsom salts, get in and relax. This helps clear back acne.

18. Hands Off Face: Avoid touching your face unless necessary. The reason for this is because your hands generally have a lot of grease and dirt on them that can clog pores leading to acne breakouts.

19. Shaving: Avoid using a razor as this generally nicks the skin, instead opt for a shaver as it's much more smoother on the skin. 

20. Benzoyl Peroxide: At night use benzoyl peroxide as an acne spot treatment. Leave on overnight before washing off the next morning. The benzoyl peroxide will kill acne bacteria and dry the spot. 


21. Lettuce Leaves: Saturate a few leaves of lettuce in water for a couple of hours. Use the water to apply over the face as an acne face wash.


22. Mint Juice And Turmeric: Mix 1 tsp of mint juice with a pinch of turmeric powder and consume. 


23. Wheat Grass Juice: Drinking a few glasses of wheat grass juice per day will help detox the body, helping to keep the skin clear from acne breakouts.

27. Baking Soda: Mix baking soda with water to make a great natural exfoliating scrub for acne. 


28. Tea Tree Oil: Using a q-tip cotton swab apply a small amount of diluted tea tree oil onto inflamed acne, leave on for a few hours to help unclog pores and speed healing process of acne scars. Tea tree oil is said to be as effective as benzoyl peroxide.
