My Top 10 Tips For Clearing Acne

1. Do Not Squeeze Pimples!

If there is one tip that has massively saved my skin it is not squeezing pimples unless 100% necessary! The reason for this is because squeezing pimples will spread infection, possibly causing more breakouts, but the main reason is because it can cause long term permanent acne scarring.

If you do have to squeeze your pimples use a technique that will minimize the risk of infection and scaring. Here is a step by step technique that you can use:

Step 1:  Cleanse the effected area with an antibacterial cleanser.

Step 2: Get a needle and make sure it is sterile by holding it over a naked flame for 3 seconds, or wiping it with a surgical spirit.

Step 3: Very gently nick the pimple. Then using cotton wool very gently drain the spot.

Step 4: Use benzoyl peroxide solution, or tea tree oil to kill any p.acne bacteria that is left on the skin.

2. Drink Plenty of Water!

You often see many people who give specific amounts of water you need to be drinking per day, usually around the 6-8 cups mark. But I believe that putting a number on how much you should be consuming is absolutely pointless.

The reason for this is because there is no real evidence that backs up that there are beneficial gains to be had by aiming for that amount per day. And the biggest reason is because on hot days it's easy to drink twice that amount, were-as on colder days or in the beginning it could be very difficult to consume that amount of water. I think the key is to just make sure you are getting a good amount of water per day to help flush the system of toxins.

3. Do Not Use Hot Water On the Skin!

Very early on when acne first started to appear before I had any clue about the causes of acne etc I believed that it was caused by dirt and bacteria, this meant that I believed if I used hot water on the skin it would help remove the dirt and kill the bacteria. But very quickly I noticed that this only served to inflame the acne, cause redness and cause more acne breakouts.

4. Avoid Using Harsh Products!

When you suffer from acne it is extremely important that you avoid using products that contain harsh ingredients on the skin. Instead look for more natural treatments for acne that will not be as harsh.

5. Never Rub The Skin Dry With A Towel!

After you have come out of the shower or bath you most likely pick up a towel and rub the skin dry, including the facial area. The problem with this when you suffer from acne is you can spread the bacteria, and also aggravate the acne also. Instead pat the face dry instead very lightly.

6. Regularly Change Your Pillow Case!

The pillow case is were a lot of dirt, grease and oil can build up from the hair and skin which can eventually block the pores. To avoid this make sure to regularly change the pillow cases, or throw a clean towel over the pillow case each night.

7. Take Advantage Of Home Remedies For Acne!

With all the over the counter acne treatments available these days and more coming on the market all the time it can be easy to forget about using simple home remedies for acne. There are literally 100s of home remedies than can be used for acne, with one of my favorites being a manuka honey mask.

8. Stay Positive!

Out of all the tips on this list this one may be the most important. Except the obvious reasons for staying positive, a negative mindset can actually make acne worse. So not only will staying positive help your over-all mindset and keep you from becoming depressed, but your acne.

9. Get Some Fresh Air And Sunlight!

There is nothing more beneficial for the mind and body than feeling the sun on the skin. In-fact a lack of sunlight is associated with a few diseases, including depression. It is also important to remember that if you are getting a lot of sun exposure that you protect your skin by using a good sun cream, preferably one that will not clog pores and is oil free.

10. Keep Active On A Daily Basis!

Keeping active daily is very important not only for clearing up acne but also over-all health and well being. Keeping active does not have to mean going to the gym, in-fact you do not have to go near a gym. Find an activity you enjoy such as hiking, football or anything that involves needing to be fit and do it as much as possible. This way you will be keeping  your body in tip top health while also having fun.
